Yizkor Books Online
The New York Public Library’s Dorot Jewish Division has won an award for their online Yizkor Book collection (via Cliopatria). Here is the Yizkor Book from my grandfather’s town, Chorzele. The pictures are very interesting because you not only see a mixture of more traditional looking people along with others, sometimes from the same family, who were clean shaven and in more modern dress, but also pictures of different cultural and political groups in the town. On page 122 (image no. 126) there is an article by an uncle of my grandfather who eventually made his way to Palestine with two of his brothers. On page 123 (image no. 127) are two pictures, with me having been able to meet some of those in the bottom picture. The names of my grandfather’s family who were killed in the Shoah are found on page 261 (image no. 265) [כהן], one of them being my great-grandfather whom I am named after. הי”ד
