Library Thing
PhiloBiblos has posted about an expansion in the libraries available via Library Thing. I wasn’t familiar with Library Thing so I took a look at it. It is an on-line cataloging system for your library, but it is also more than that. It is similar to a Facebook or Myspace for books and readers. You create your own catalogue, either by manually entering a book’s information or with the help of a search engine that includes many libraries and Amazon. The community aspect of it comes into play when you see who else has catalogued the same book, allowing you to locate people with common literary interests. You can also search tags or genres. Library Things is free for up to two hundred books, and after that either $10 per year or $25 for life. There is a Hebrew interface available, and one can add records in Hebrew. It is also able to search the Israel Union List. There are some problems with the importing of records from the Israel Union List, but hopefully they’ll be worked out in the future.
