Rabbiner/in Regina Jonas

With God’s Help,

Wednesday of the week which ends with the reading of the Torah portion “Vayigash elav Yehudah,” in the year 5696 [Jan. 1, 1936]

To the honored Rabbinerin Frau Rivka of the family of Jonas.

I heard the good news and have rejoiced over the good that the Eternal has done for you. This matter is an innovation, and nothing of its kind has ever been heard of in our entire country, and above all I send my deeply felt congratulations, and it strikes me as proof that there are also miracles in our times. The aim of this event should be to glorify and make great the Torah.

On the Sabbath around midday I am sure to be home and would be delighted to see you.

With greetings also for your mother and with great respect,

Dr. Singermann

From a postcard sent to the Rabbiner/in Regina Jonas, the first female ever ordained as a rabbi by Rabbi Dr. Felix Singermann.
