Spider-Man Meets the Dead Sea Scrolls
Spider-Man fans were treated this week to a special issue of the Amazing Spider-Man which features president-elect Barack Obama. For a laugh also see this video from Colbert. While my son was lucky enough to have the local comic book store put one aside for him, there is an older Spider-Man issue which is more relevant to this blog. In the Amazing Spider-Man #68 from January, 1969, “Crisis on Campus,” (the “crisis” portrayed in this issue is clearly inspired by the Columbia U. uprising of 1968) one of the sub-plots involves an ancient and as yet un-deciphered tablet which is thought to hold important secrets. The bad guy, Kingpin, expresses a strong desire to acquire this tablet.
