Fritz Rothschild z”l

I just received the following email from JTS.

I regret to inform you that Dr. Fritz A. Rothschild passed away. Dr. Rothschild was Professor Emeritus of Jewish Philosophy, was a graduate of our Rabbinical School and a long time member of our faculty. The funeral will take place this Wednesday, March 11 at 11:30 am at the Plaza Memorial Chapel (630 Amsterdam Avenue at 91st Street).

Dr. Rothschild is survived by his wife Lotte and his son Jonathan. Condolences may be sent to: 275 West 96th Street, #10G, New York, NY 10025.

We offer the Rothschild family much comfort at this difficult time. May his memory always be for a blessing.

Fritz Rothschild is best known for his excellent anthology of writings from Abraham Joshua Heschel, Between God and Man. He also edited Jewish Perspectives on Christianity: Leo Baeck, Martin Buber, Franz Rosenzweig, Will Herberg, and Abraham J. Heschel
and wrote a very interesting article on reading the Bible, “Truth and Metaphor in the Bible.” Conservative Judaism 25,3 (1971): 3-22. May his memory be for a blessing.
