Rabbi Haim Navon on Female Rabbis
Rabbi Haim Navon recently wrote an article in Akdamot in which he addressed the issue of female rabbis. I haven’t read the article, but from this article (Heb.) and his column here (Heb.) he seems to be of the opinion that this is a very slow process which in the end might lead to female rabbis. Ynet has published a number of reactions. There is one which was posted in Engish by Rabbi Chaya Rowen-Baker.
Bringing about change by conservative methods means irrelevancy; talking about ‘200 years’ when the time is now is sheer effrontery. As one of the responses to the article said: The feminist religious revolution is happening, with you or without you. Let us hope that exaggerated timidity won’t bring in its wake further destruction.
There is another column by Hayuta Deutsch who said that women deciding halakhah is already here. She focuses on one such woman.
