Obama in Cairo
Years before President Obama spoke at Cairo University, none other than Menachem Mendel walked its illustrious halls. When I was studying at Hebrew University I did a little traveling in Egypt and one afternoon my friends and I decided to check out the campus. Lo and behold, there happened to be an anti-Israel demonstration (this was during the First Intifada). After someone told us that the police usually (!) don’t intervene, I might have decided that taking pictures wasn’t the smartest thing to do. Its campus does have some pretty buildings. I won’t hide the fact that I am generally happy with Obama’s performance as a President and his vision of what he wants in the America, the Middle East, and the rest of the world. Knowing that mortals are often wrong, listening to ones critics is always important. For some reasoned critiques and comments on Obama’s speech see these series of comments from the Middle East Strategy at Harvard . In addition, I would highly recommend this interview which the President gave after his talk in which he addresses some of the issues more in depth.
