part of his personality reminds me of one of my grad school teachers of medieval jewish history.
i find these obits interesting. a lot of time great scholars are remembered by those outside their field for one book or theory, for better or worse. everything else is forgotten (e.g., zeitlin, cyrus gordon, etc.) all i remember (not positively) about wieder is his book from the 60s on the karaite-dead sea connection. i never knew about all his other work
