A Few New Books from Israel-Iyyar 5750
I just got a few new books that have recently (one not so recently) been printed in Israel. Thanks to my parents and the mail, here are a few of the new books on my shelf.
1. Admiel Kosman, מסכת נשים. This is the companion volume to Kosman’s study of midrashim and legends about men and male sexuality, מסכת גברים. Pretty much everything that Kosman writes is interesting and enjoyable and I doubt that this will be any different.
2. Ha-Rav Uziel u-Venei Zemano: Pirkei Iyyun be-Hagutam shel Hachmei ha-Mizrah be-Yisrael be-Meah ha-Esrim,ed. Tzvi Zohar. This is a collection of articles about different 20th-century Mizrahi rabbis.
3. Shu”t Devar Hevron: Orah Hayyim. This is the second volume of responsa by Rabbi Dov Lior to be published. The first was on Hoshen Mishpat and Even ha-Ezer. His responsa address very practical questions and are to the point.
4. Shulhan Arukh: Orah Hayyim im Sefer Halakhah u-Minhag by Menachem Eiden. In this book Rabbi Eiden presents two parallel commentaries. One focuses on interpretations presented by numerous commentators on the Shulhan Arukh which seem to be different from how one might understand the words of R. Yosef Karo. The second commentary addresses situations in which the accepted practice, specifically of Mizrahi rabbis, is different than that of Yosef Karo. In this section Eiden specifies whether the reason that people disagree with Maran is because of custom, kabbalah, humrah, etc. The books to which he refers in this section are Kaf ha-Hayyim, Hazon Ovadiah, Yalkut Yosef, and Halakhah Berurah. While we’re talking about the Yosef family, my friend Mordechai S. has informed me that Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef has just published a book called Shulhan ha-Maarechet: Musagei Halakhah.
All of the above books were purchased from Judaica Book Center, info-at-jbcbooks.com.

Several months after purchasing the first volume, I have recently purchased the second volume of Shulhan ha-Maarechet at Biegeleisen in Boro Park.
