A Few Customs for Tisha b’av

This article (Hebrew) brings a few customs that were observed by some communities on Tisha b’Av. Among them are the following:

1. The Torah scroll would be put on the back of a person who would be sitting on their knees. (Birkhei Yosef 559:76)
2. In Yemen, ashes would be put on the Torah scroll. (see Rambam, Laws of Fasts 4:1)
3. During shaḥarit (the morning service) the Torah was read without cantillations. (Noheig ke-Tzon Yosef, p. 249)
4. Anyone who received an aliyah during shaḥarit would also bless ברוך דיין האמת (Blessed is the righteous judge) [Moed le-Khol Ḥai, p. 118)
