Sura, Pumbedita, and now Seoul

talmudkorean.jpg

According to an article (Hebrew) in Ynet, the country that has the most students studying Talmud is…South Korea. Apparently, educators in South Korea have decided that the Talmud is the reason why the Jews are such an educated, successful, and cultured people, and they too hope to be affected in a similar way.

The study of Talmud in Korea has been reported in a number of other places, and it has apparently been going on for some years.

For anyone who is interested, the Korean world for Talmud is 탈무드, so Google away and see what you find. Using Google Translate I found this funny translation.

Yes- This is as smart as Archie Bunker wanting to only hire a Jewish lawyer because Jews mAke the best lawyers- or was it doctors. I forget. I guess not enough Talmud studying.
