The conference at Haifa University on the book Torat ha-Melekh has been cancelled after protests from numerous quarters over the author being invited to speak. (hat tip)

Lawrence Schiffman: Qumran and Jerusalem

Lawrence Schiffman has published a new book, Qumran and Jerusalem: Studies in the Dead Sea Scrolls and the History of Judaism. Major changes are occurring in our understanding of the fascinating texts of the Dead Sea Scrolls and their significance for the study of the history of Judaism and Christianity. One of the most significant […]

Yaron Zelekha on the Israeli Economy

In the past two weeks the Hebrew edition of Haaretz has published two articles about the former Accountant General of the Finance Ministry, Yaron Zelekha. The Mishnah and Dogwalkers

The Armchair Ethicist has a case that is great for those who like to apply rabbinic law to modern situations. Over the weekend, my husband and I left our dog with a friend. Our friend got distracted while walking her, and our dog ran across the street and attacked a small dog. We feel the […]

The Talmud-themed movie Footnote will be screened at the New York Film Festival which runs from Sept. 30-Oct. 16. I do not think that the exact times that it will be screened are presently available, but tickets for the greater public go on sale Sept. 12. (Jpost)
