Happy Birthday Danny Sanderson
Danny Sanderson, who has been an important figure in Israeli music since the 1970′s, is 61 year old today. The first video is from his early days with Poogy. The second is a more recent one, a duet with Ninet Tayeb.

The name of the band was Kaveret; not Poogy. Poogy was a character in their stories and songs in Sipurei Poogy. What a great performer and band.

Mordechai,
You’re correct, but outside of Israel they called themselves Poogy and that’s the name that I was familiar with.

After watching the first video, I am reminded of what I miss from the music then. I was in college in the late 70s. Performers like Kaveret, Mati Caspi, Shalom Hanoch, Arik Einshtein, Yonatan Gefen, Yehudit Ravitz et al all remembered to have fun when they performed. They were skilled musicians. Lyrics often displayed their intelligence either with their depth and sensitivity; or their wit. I still think טובעים השנים מן האחד is one of the great puns of Israeli music. If you look at other videos from that time you can see time and again the humor and intelligence coupled with the great musical ability.

According to the video he’s 61, not 71.

I think that you’re right. Either the radio announcer got it wrong, or I heard wrong. Thanks.
