Jews Lead the List in Irreligiosity
From a new Gallup poll:
Of the religions surveyed in the poll, Jews were found to be the least religious: Only 38 percent of the worldwide Jewish population considers itself religious, 54 as non-religious and 2 percent as atheists. In comparison, 97 percent of Buddhists, 83 percent of Protestant Christians and 74 percent of Muslims consider themselves religious.

not very helpful without a definition of what “religious” means for the researchers (and respondents)

The sample size among jews 106, leaves a lot to be desired. I do not think it really reflects the situation among jews.
What are these 106 individuals, a bunch of persons in Dizengof? Diamond district in 47th street in NYC?
Did they quizz anybody elsewhere?

Inresante. The above commenters make good points. Assuming the poll is representative though, it doesnt surprise me. Orthodox Jewry imposes more obligation and “burdens” (if one wishes to use that word) on its adherents than other religions on theirs. Despite occasional outcrys from the conservative rabbis, “religious” is still identified with orthodox practice. So not surpirsing that the lowest proportions is found among teh yids.
