Ladino in the Shulhan Arukh
Have you ever wondered what the word אשטרינג”ה means? If so, read this very useful article that lists all of the Ladino words in the Shulḥan Arukh with translations, אליעזר פאפו, אוצר המלים השאולות מלאדינו בשולחן ערוך. If you were wondering, אשטרינג”ה is from the Ladino word estringra and it is a thread or string with metal on its ends that is used to hold up clothing.

Initial thought: That’s like seeing the word “fenster” in rashi, and attributing it to Yiddish, rather than german. i’m no professional linguist, but common sense tells me estringa was a word in usage in mainstram langauge too, not just ladino.

If you download the article you’ll see that the etymology of each word is given, e.g. the above word has its origins in Italian.
