Mosad Abraham Joshua Heschel

I recently posted about the renewed interest in the writings of Abraham Joshua Heschel in Israel. The other day I came across the first newsletter of Mosad Abraham Joshua Heschel, an institute that existed in Israel during the 1970’s. It published a few books of Heschel in Hebrew translation, including The Sabbath, The Earth is the Lords, and Israel: An Echo in Eternity. An additional book called חמש שיחות עם אברהם יהושע השל was also published. I am not sure for how long the institute existed, but it is interesting that thirty-five years later some of the original hopes of its founders are coming true.

Pity that you neglected to mention that Dr. Peli also was the translator/editor into Hebrew of Rabbi J.D. Soloveitzik’s על התשובה and סוד היחיד והיחד.

I didn’t mention it b/c the post wasn’t about the other important things that Dr. Peli did.

Granted, but he is an important link between two giants who (at least today) few would mention in the same breath. I think it’s an interesting point reflecting an attitude in the 70’s which was less parochial than today.

I agree with you about the importance of Peli’s work, thanks for pointing it out. If you’re interested in his work, there is a book in Hebrew by Michael Shashar that talks about Pinchas Peli and his brothers, Menachem Hacohen and Shmuel Avidor Hacohen.

Thanks. I am familiar with all 3 brothers (though never met them personally) but unfamiliar with book.
