Review of Sages and Commoners
Joshua Schwartz reviews Stuart S. Miller’s Sages and Commoners in Late Antique ‘Erez Israel: A Philological Inquiry into Local Traditions in Talmud Yerushalmi here. See here for a previous post on this book. I have only read the introduction to Miller’s book and I found that it gives a very good introduction to the state of research on the rabbinic movement in the Land of Israel during the Mishnaic and Talmudic Period. Much of the introduction can be found here.

Miller is my main professor here on campus. Absolutely love the man … we’re doing Talmud this semester, and he’s probably the perfect guy to be doing it with.
