Ruth Calderon’s Heder

Ruth Calderon used to have a show on Israeli TV called החדר. The shows featured Calderon and a guest or two who addressed issues relating to Judaism and Jewish culture, Zionism, Jewish texts, and Israeli culture. Archived videos of the program can be found here. Below is an episode that discussed Bave Metzia 84a, Rabbi Yoḥanan and Reish Lakish.

I am on record saying I think this is not only a passing fad, but not even a fad to begin with, just a media creation. (And frankly I dont trust media reports in things, like this, in which they have an agenda to push. I remember vividly how the leftist AP would desribe conservative gatherings in the thousands as “a few supporters”, and groupings of 6 or 7 liberals as a “rally.” But I digress.)

Having said that, I’m all in favor of it. It’s a good thing, and should definitely be encouraged. Jews learning Talmud, even on a low level, is never a bad thing.

They are reading from a contemporary Hebrew translation of the Talmud, yes?

    DF,

This is from a TV show that ran for a few years, it wasn’t just a one off.

I think that Ruth Calderon has the original and the other people had translations.
