The Bamba Blessing War Continues

As I wrote in this previous post, the question of what is the proper blessing over Bamba is causing some people to be quite perplexed. The Bamba Blessing Wars have heated up with the latest battlefield being the Yosef family. Apparently, last week R. David Yosef published a book with a letter from his father, Rav Ovadiah Yosef, saying that the proper blessing should be שהכל נהיה בדברו. The potential problem is that previously another of Rav Ovadiah’s sons, R. Yitzhak Yosef, said that his father’s opinion was that the proper blessing is בורא פרי האדמה. To make matters worse, Rav Ovadiah himself has not been so forthcoming regarding which opinion is correct. Maybe we should ask the British, since they seem to have given such serious thought to the status of Pringles. Here you can see some Osem agitprop which describes the illustrious history of Bamba and its “good nutrition.”

Update: R. Haim Navon writes here on the Babma blessing question and tries to illustrate the religious significance of seemingly trivial questions such as this one.

I remember reading that post a while back. It would be a lot healthier just to give a child peanuts or natural peanut butter. Bamba is pure junk food.
