Torah Scroll by a Soferet
In what may be a first, a Torah scroll is being completed by a soferet (female scribe). Jen Taylor Friedman is almost finished writing a Torah scroll for United Hebrew Congregation of Chesterfield, MO and you can see a TV news broadcast about it here. Jen has a very informative web site about sofrut in general and also specifically about women and sofrut. She also has a blog, Hatam Soferet. Yishar Koach to Jen!
Manuscriptboy has a number of interesting posts which address the question of female scribes throughout Jewish history. Also see this article (pdf) by R. Ross Singer regarding women writing Megillat Esther (it can be found here in html).
